Singer Nicky Genius has roped in superstar Winky D on a brand new track called Kumusoro which dropped Monday on YouTube.
Already the song is trending at #15 on YouTube and it appears a good number of fans can relate to the message.
While the song arrangement is okay it is all the more remarkable that the lyrics capture the attention of many listeners.
Kumusoro is basically about young people wanting to breakthrough but they seem to be tied down because of problems within families.
And in Shona culture one of those things could come from the fact that when our fathers marry our mothers they didn’t fully pay the bride price especially one called Mombe Yeumai.
Mombe Yeumai is supposed to be a cow that is given to mother in-law.
But when that doesn’t happen usually it affects the children so much so that when they try to do whatever they want they fail.
So in the song both Nicky Genius and Winky D cry foul that Mombe Yeumai was not paid to the in-laws hence the grand children are struggling to eke out a decent living.
That said, the song is not out of this world but the one good thing is that most people can relate to it.
Stories abound of people who have affected by the same and also it is well and good that the solution t the problem could come from the heaven above.
Kumusoro which is off Nicky Genius’ new album Ndokutendai Nei is surely to raise some awareness surrounding the issues of Mombe Yeumai.
While the song recognizes the Zimbabwean traditions and customs to also places emphasis on divine intervention.
It recognizes that there is God above (meaning Kumusoro). Not a club hanger but still Kumusoro still an enjoyable listen to fans of both Winky D and Nicky Genius.
