Kariba — Nyanhewe Primary School has etched its name in history as the first institution in Mashonaland West Province to establish a computer hub equipped with 50 tablets under the Digitalization Program in Schools initiative.
The school, led by head Millicent Madondo, received the Best Excellence in Developing Digital and Inclusive Learning Award at the World Summit on A.I. & Digitalization in Education (WADE) held recently in Dubai.
Presented by Edutec Global, United Arab Emirates, and the Ruler of Dubai, the award recognizes institutions making exceptional strides in integrating technology into education.
It celebrates innovative approaches that enhance learning quality and address educational challenges worldwide.
The international summit attracted over 180 delegates from across Zimbabwe’s ten provinces, including representatives from all seven districts of Mashonaland West — Kariba, Hurungwe, Makonde, Zvimba, Chegutu, Sanyati, and Mhondoro-Ngezi.
Among those in attendance were District School Inspectors, Schools Inspectors, and heads of both primary and secondary schools such as Magunje High, Karoi High, and Chinhoyi Technical High.
Expressing pride in the school’s global recognition, Madondo said:
“This award underscores our dedication to providing a modern learning environment that prepares our students for the digital age. It reflects the government’s commitment to advancing education through technology.”
The accolade highlights not only the success of government-led digital transformation efforts but also the dedication of educators working to deliver inclusive, technology-driven learning experiences.
Education authorities expect the recognition to motivate other schools in the province and beyond to adopt similar digital strategies aimed at improving access and learning outcomes.
