Masvingo, Zimbabwe — The Ministry of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture, in collaboration with Village Headman Mubaiwa, commemorated the International Intangible Cultural Heritage Day at Mubaiwa Village, celebrating Zimbabwe’s living traditions and cultural identity.
The event aimed to promote and preserve the nation’s rich cultural heritage, emphasizing its role in fostering national pride, social cohesion, and sustainable development.
The commemoration featured traditional performances, exhibitions, and oral narratives that showcased the community’s distinctive customs and practices. The activities provided a vibrant display of Zimbabwe’s diverse cultural expressions and their continued relevance in modern society.
Village Headman Mubaiwa expressed gratitude to the Ministry for bringing the celebration to his community, noting the importance of safeguarding cultural heritage for future generations.
“Our traditions define who we are. Preserving them ensures that our identity and wisdom are passed on,” he said.
Gusho Tarisai, the Acting Deputy Director in the Ministry for Masvingo West Province, conveyed a message reaffirming the Ministry’s commitment to initiatives that protect and promote Zimbabwe’s Intangible Cultural Heritage.
The event also served as a platform for intergenerational knowledge sharing, strengthening unity and creativity within the community.
By recognizing and preserving intangible cultural heritage, the Ministry seeks to contribute to national development and cultural sustainability, ensuring that Zimbabwe’s heritage continues to inspire pride and progress for generations to come.
