Economic Empowerment Group president Mike Chimombe has been granted ZWL$56 000.00 bail Tuesday by Harare magistrates court.
Chimombe is facing accused of fleecing a property owner of land worth over US$16 000.
In a statement yesterday, police national spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed that Chimombe had been arrested at his plush Borrowdale home.
“The ZRP confirms the arrest of Mike Chimombe for fraudulent land deals which occurred between August 2020 and December 2021 in Harare where the complainant was duped US$16 900,” part of the statement read.
In July this year, Heymish Katsande, and Steven Chimombe who is Mike’s brother were arrested over the same charge and their matter which is before the courts was remanded to 26 October- next month.
When Chimombe appeared before magistrate Dennis Mangosi, the state did not oppose bail and proposed that he pays ZW50 000 deposit to the clerk of court.
Lawyer Tapson Dzetere is representing the former AAG president who passed on the button to gold baron Scot Sakupwanya early this year.
AAG is a prestigious Zanu PF body that in the past has been led by wanning property magnet Phillip Chiyangwa.
Mike Chimombe bail application is yet to be wrapped up by magistrate Mangosi but it appears the towering business tycoon who pitched up in an all black clothing will go back home today.
