NetOne Joins National Clean-Up, Partners Councils and EMA

By Jonathan Mbiriyamveka

NetOne has reaffirmed its commitment to environmental sustainability by participating in the monthly national clean-up campaign, partnering with local authorities, the Environmental Management Agency and educational institutions across three provinces.

The initiative, held every first Friday of the month, forms part of NetOne’s broader Environmental, Social and Governance commitments, with a particular focus on environmental stewardship, stakeholder engagement and community development.

As the state-owned mobile network operator marks 30 years of operation, the national clean-up campaigns are being positioned as an extension of its community mandate beyond telecommunications.

Partnerships across three provinces

In Gokwe, NetOne partnered with Gokwe Town Council, bringing together employees and local stakeholders to improve public spaces and promote responsible waste management.

The collaboration highlights the role of corporate-local authority partnerships in advancing sustainable community development.

In Bulawayo, the company worked alongside the Environmental Management Agency and the Council of Churches, drawing together stakeholders united by a shared responsibility to protect the environment and create cleaner public spaces.

In Masvingo, NetOne partnered with Don Bosco Primary School, mobilising employees and the school community to maintain clean, healthy learning environments. The partnership underscores the importance of engaging educational institutions in fostering a culture of environmental responsibility.

ESG commitments in action

The campaigns translate NetOne’s stated ESG principles into visible activity — employee participation, stakeholder partnerships and community mobilisation aimed at improved environmental management.

Speaking on the initiative, NetOne Spokesperson Ernest Magadzire said environmental responsibility was a natural extension of the company’s core mandate.

“As NetOne celebrates 30 years of connecting Zimbabwe, we recognise that meaningful connectivity extends beyond telecommunications,” Magadzire said.

“It is also about connecting communities to a shared responsibility for the environment in which we live and work.

“By answering the call to participate in monthly national clean-up campaigns, we are turning our ESG commitments into action while working alongside local authorities, environmental partners, churches and communities to create cleaner and healthier spaces for all.”

Beyond connectivity

NetOne’s participation in the national clean-up campaigns aligns with the government’s national call for environmental responsibility, issued by President Emmerson Mnangagwa, and reinforces the company’s positioning as a contributor to national development beyond digital connectivity.

The monthly national clean-up campaigns form part of a broader ESG agenda that the company says will continue to promote environmental stewardship, stakeholder relations and responsible corporate citizenship.

As NetOne marks its 30th anniversary, the organisation says its contribution to national development will continue to extend beyond network coverage — into the communities it serves.
