The town of Chegutu was left in shock after the brutal murder of Alec Sinoia, a 42-year-old taxi driver from the DRC.
His body was discovered in Kaguvi area, Pfupajena, lying near his vandalized Honda Fit taxi (Reg. AEP 5524), marked by shattered windows, punctured tires, and a trail of blood.
The case, reported by local resident Paul Chipanda, prompted swift action by ZRP Pfupajena and CID Chegutu.
Leading the investigation, Detective Nomthandazo Matshitse noted signs of a fierce struggle, suggesting Alec had fought back against his attackers.
Alec had vanished while operating his Chegutu CBD route. Witnesses later linked a group of suspicious individuals to the scene.
After weeks of relentless investigation—interviews, forensic analysis, and CCTV review—police uncovered a gang targeting local taxi drivers.
Five young men were arrested and charged with Alec’s murder. In court, they were sentenced to life imprisonment. Justice was finally served.
Alec’s family, who traveled from the DRC to bury him, and the residents of Chegutu now find solace in the outcome.
The Honda Fit, once a symbol of tragedy, is set to return to the road—restored, like the community’s sense of peace.
