The Chegutu District Agricultural Show, held under the theme “Connecting Agriculture, Industry and Community,” concluded on a high note with a vibrant prize-giving ceremony.
Outstanding farmers were honored with practical prizes, including a 4-plate gas stove, wheelbarrow, knapsack sprayer, and moldboard plough.
The event, which ran from July 15 to 19, 2025, at Pfupajena Stadium, left attendees inspired and motivated to contribute to the growth of Zimbabwe’s agricultural sector.
Beneath the blazing sun at Pfupajena Stadium, the show reached its peak on July 18 with an official opening ceremony. Dr Stanley Segula, Managing Director of Zimplats, was the Guest of Honour, joined by Mr. Prosper Mtongerwa, Chairman of the Agricultural Show.
“This event is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our farmers. I am thrilled to witness the progress we are making toward food and nutrition security in our communities,” said Dr. Segula
Dr. Segula underscored the importance of Zimbabwe’s land reform program, which he said had empowered citizens through increased participation in farming. He stressed that the success of the program hinged on proper farming methods, the right skills, and positive attitudes.
“People should grow what the country needs, not just what suits individual interests, especially when food security is at stake,” he emphasized.
“Farmers must reach potential yield levels in their areas to contribute meaningfully to national production targets.”
He also encouraged collaboration with Agritex and seed companies to select appropriate crop varieties, and reaffirmed that government support remains critical to agricultural success.
In his welcome remarks, Mr. Prosper Mtongerwa expressed gratitude to Dr. Segula, the sponsors, and organizers for their support.
“This Show has long stood as a proud tradition – a gathering of farmers, producers, craftspeople, families, and friends – all united by a shared appreciation for the land and agriculture’s vital role in our lives,” he said.
Mr. Mtongerwa highlighted how the show aligns with President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s Vision 2030 mantra: “Leave No One and No Place Behind.”
He proudly noted a surge in participation, with exhibitors increasing from seven last year to over 20 this year, reflecting growing interest and investment in agriculture in the district.
He extended heartfelt thanks to key sponsors and partners including Zimplats, Pikiston Mine, Charles Stewart, David Whitehead, and Dodhill. Other notable exhibitors included ZimParks, AVC, Ministry of Education, several local schools including Dudhill Primary and Spring of Grace College, Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe, ZINWA, EMA, Zimbabwe Tourism Authority, Chinhoyi University of Technology, African Century, and many others.
The crowd responded with enthusiastic applause as Dr. Segula’s words resonated deeply, reinforcing a shared commitment to agricultural growth.
Closing remarks were delivered by Mr. Godfrey Mlambo, Ward Chair, on behalf of MP Hon. Shacky Timburwa.
“As we draw the curtain on this year’s Agricultural Show, I stand humbled and inspired by the innovation, resilience, and unity shown by our farmers, agri-preneurs, exhibitors, and stakeholders,” he said.
He emphasized the show’s role in not only showcasing agricultural success, but also in reinforcing a collective vision for food security, rural industrialization, and sustainable livelihoods.
“Let us leave here re-energized, with a renewed commitment to support inclusive policies, climate-smart agriculture, and full participation of youth and women in the agrarian economy.
May this show not be an end, but a catalyst for progress that is visible, measurable, and people-centered.”
