In a tearful and emotional revelation, social media personality DJ Tawaz opened up about hitting rock bottom—saying he was completely broke—before a life-changing act of generosity gave him a fresh start.
Once known for his outrageous and sometimes controversial online skits, DJ Tawaz had become a familiar face on Zimbabwean social media.
From dancing in the middle of highways to posting eccentric, sometimes risqué content, he was more often ridiculed than praised.
Behind the scenes, however, the entertainer was silently battling poverty and desperation.
“I was at my lowest. I was completely broke, I don’t want to lie,” DJ Tawaz said through tears in a video that has since gone viral.
“I want to thank Sir Wicknell Chivayo and his wife for lifting me up. I also thank President Mnangagwa, the First Lady, ZANU PF, and I am glad Victor did not remove a single note.”
His emotional confession came shortly after philanthropist and businessman Sir Wicknell Chivayo came to his aid.
Known for his flamboyant lifestyle and acts of generosity, Chivayo announced on Facebook that he had gifted DJ Tawaz a brand-new Toyota Fortuner worth US$75,000 and an additional US$50,000 in cash.
For a man once mocked for pretending to live large, the gift was more than a blessing—it was validation.
While DJ Tawaz never actually played music as a DJ, his stage name and antics kept him in the public eye.
He often sought attention from Zimbabwe’s elite, including Chivayo and gold magnate Scott Sakupwanya, by filming humorous videos at intersections and highways.
He was relentless—and eventually, it paid off.
His story underscores a sobering truth about social media: appearances can be deceiving.
Despite flaunting luxury clothing and cash in videos, DJ Tawaz now admits he was only putting up a front to mask his real-life struggles.
For years, he brushed shoulders with celebrities like the late Ginimbi, posting photos in designer outfits and luxury settings. But in reality, the glitz was a facade—one that hid the pain of poverty.
Now, thanks to one man’s generosity, DJ Tawaz has a second chance.
His story is a reminder that sometimes, beneath the theatrics and social media stunts, are people with real struggles—hoping, praying, and pushing for just one break.
