In a tightly contested match at Nyamhunga Stadium, ZPC Kariba and Dynamos FC played to a goalless draw, with both teams expressing frustration over the playing surface, which they believe significantly impacted the game’s outcome.

The match highlighted the competitive spirit of both teams, but the quality of the pitch was a recurring theme in post-match discussions.

ZPC Kariba’s Stanley Ngala was a standout player, particularly in the first 15 minutes, as he managed to penetrate the Dynamos defense, anchored by Frank Makarati.

Despite Ngala’s efforts, the teams struggled to convert opportunities into goals.

In the 65th minute, Emmanuel Pagga showcased his striking prowess, but ZPC’s defense, led by Boid Mutukure, held firm to maintain the stalemate.

The poor condition of the pitch was a focal point for both coaches during their post-match interviews. ZPC’s head coach, Newton Chitehwe, remarked, “Playing against a team that has been winning most of their past matches is not easy.

“We had an upper hand today but we could not create more chances; that’s why we ended up with a draw. The way we played was fairly good, but the poor surface affected our play. We had situations where our boys could not make nice passes.”

Dynamos head coach Lloyd Chigohwe echoed similar sentiments, stating, “We started with low energy levels but eventually picked up as the match progressed. There is a lot that needs to be done with the playing surfaces. What I was expecting is not what I saw. Grass is all over the pitch instead of lawn.”

The draw between ZPC Kariba and Dynamos serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining quality playing surfaces in professional football. As both teams look to improve their standings in the league, addressing the issues related to pitch conditions will be crucial for enhancing the quality of play and ensuring fair competition.

The shared points from this match reflect the ongoing challenges teams face, not just in terms of tactics and player performance, but also in the fundamental aspects of the game, such as the playing environment.

Despite a ten-year lease from the Municipality of Kariba, ZPC Kariba has failed to maintain Nyamhunga Stadium, attracting questions about their management of the facility.
