Zimbabwean Carer in Haddington Admits Stealing Cash From Client’s Home

A care worker from Haddington has admitted stealing an envelope containing cash from a client in Ormiston while struggling with personal debt.

Forgiveness Chitengwa, 41, took the money during her employment between October 3 and 24 last year at an address on Moffat Road.

She pleaded guilty at Edinburgh Sheriff Court last month, where sentencing was initially postponed to allow for social work reports.

At her return hearing on Monday, the court heard that Chitengwa—who has two children and was working full-time—was representing herself.

Sheriff Adrian Fraser further deferred sentencing to allow her time to obtain legal representation, citing the seriousness of the offence.
