Mhangura Recreation Club hosted the World Contraception Day commemoration under the theme “Contraception: It’s Your Life, It’s Your Responsibility,” emphasizing informed reproductive choices for all.
The event focused on raising awareness about family planning, especially among young people, and highlighted the need for inclusive access to reproductive health education and services.
Speaking on behalf of Hon. Marian Chombo, PS Josephat Jaji stressed the importance of government support in providing reproductive health information.
Zimbabwe National Family Planning Council CEO, Mr. Farai Machinga, reaffirmed that access to contraception is a basic right and key to personal and national development.
Health Minister Dr. Douglas Mombeshora praised Zimbabwe’s progress in reproductive health and launched the National Contraceptive Cost Recovery Framework, aimed at securing steady contraceptive supplies through domestic resources.
Other speakers, including Population Services Zimbabwe Director Mrs. Pester Siraha and UNFPA Deputy Representative Dr. Aboubakar Cisse, underscored the importance of male involvement and continued investment in reproductive health services.
The event also included the distribution of reading materials and menstrual pads to local schools and youth centers, through a partnership between ZNFPC and Edward Ndlovu Memorial Trust.
This commemoration reinforced Zimbabwe’s commitment to reproductive rights, equitable healthcare, and building an informed, empowered society.
