Sweet Buzz: Alcoholic Candies Add a Twist to Christmas Cheer

By Jonathan Mbiriyamveka

This festive season, there’s a surprising new way to celebrate and share joy: alcoholic sweets.

These treats, combining the allure of candy with the kick of your favorite spirits, have hit the market just in time for Christmas, offering a unique twist to traditional holiday indulgence.

Forget about raising a glass—these sweets pack enough punch to give you a buzz without the clinking. But beware: just like their liquid counterparts, a few too many could leave you lightheaded. Whether you’re a fan of whiskey, tequila, or liqueur, there’s a flavor to match every palate.

Currently, the market offers an exciting range of options. For whiskey enthusiasts, Jameson-flavored candies are available for $5 per pack, while fans of tequila or Jägermeister can enjoy their favorite flavors for $6.

Amarula Cream sweets are selling at $6 for two packs, while gin lovers can grab Tanqueray-flavored candies for $4 a pack. Hennessy, Jack Daniels, Smirnoff, and Johnny Walker Red Label flavors are also up for grabs, priced between $4 and $6.

However, these tantalizing treats come with a catch: they’re not available in supermarkets but are sold through individuals, often via social media platforms or private networks.

This raises concerns, particularly about their accessibility to children under 18. In Zimbabwe, it’s illegal to sell alcohol to minors, yet these sweets blur the lines between a harmless treat and a controlled substance.

As the sweets gain popularity, questions remain about regulation and responsible consumption.

But for adults looking to spice up their celebrations, these alcoholic candies promise to add a little more buzz to the holiday cheer.
