Last weekend Steppers Radio Fan Club had a whale of a time!
The fan club loyal to Classic263 celebrated a double delight at the End of Year Get Together Party — winning The Mega Fest Award and being named The Most Improved Radio Station of The Year.
The party held at Prince Edward School drew fans from as far as Hwange, Bulawayo, Murehwa and Mutare attending the feast which had standout performances by Prince Edward School Jazz Band.
One of the highlights was when the band jammed Oliver Mtukudzi’s classic hit Mutserendende joined by guest of honour veteran guitarist Clive Mono Mukundu on lead guitar.
It was really a befitting number considering that Classic263 smooth sailed throughout the year increasing its listenership under the watchful eye of Terrence Mapurisana, who is The Steppers Radio Fan Club President and Station Manager for both Classic263 Radio Station and Power FM Zimbabwe.
Also among the notables at the party were Selmor Mtukudzi and her beau Tendai Manatsa.
Steppers Radio Fan Club was founded by veteran radio producer/presenter, Terrence Mapurisana aka Radio Commissioner General or The Hotstepper to some.
The fan club started off as a mere radio and WhatsApp group but has grown to become a lifestyle for many.
Some old and new Steppers members were presented with Certificates of loyalty and recognition and that is how much the club has become part of music lovers.
Speaking during his opening remarks chairman of the club Givemore Madziya, hailed The Steppers for the support.
“As we celebrate The Steppers End of Year Party and Get Together, it has ironically became a double celebration, since we are also celebrating Classic 263 Radio, for winning The Mega Fest Award and for being named The Most Improved Radio Station of The Year 2021 under the able leadership of Mr Mapurisana.
“We say Congratulations, Makorokoto, Amphlope!!! Let me also take this opportunity to announce to you all that with effect from today, Mr Meron Mushayavanhu representing Hwange Chapter of The Steppers has been endorsed as the new Steppers Patron, taking over from Advocate Vasco Shamu, whose term expired this year,” he said.
He said the Steppers were a united family brought together by the love of adult contemporary music also known as Old Skool music.
The club named after Mapurisana’s Weekend radio shows then known as the SMG shows which aired in the last 15 years.
Madziya also took time to remember two of their members who died this year — Henry Mawaka (Harare Chapter) and Paddington Dzeya (Mutare Chapter).
