Social media users have roundly condemned Floyd Mayweather Jnr’s visit to Mabvuku, an impoverished suburb in Harare coming as it did on the eve of crucial general elections on 23 August 2023.
The Money Man as Floyd calls himself flew to Zimbabwe on Thursday on what he called The Motherland Tour which would also take him to South Africa.
While in Mabvuku, The Money Man showcased his fitness in the boxing ring which he later handed over to Sports Minister Kirsty Coventry.
Later a lavish dinner will be held tonight at venue still to be advised.
On Friday The Money visited the State House before he went on a game drive. She was scheduled to party up a storm at Pabloz Night Club Friday Night.
His host Pedzisayi Scott Sakupwanya, is Zanu PF aspiring MP vying for a parliamentary in Mabvuku.
However, the Money Man came empty handed in terms of investment in Zimbabwe but rather he was the one who benefitted from the trip.
This angered many social media users who expressed their feeling on Facebook.
One user said: “It’s so sad and they have to come and spend the whole day watching him do this. Floyd is so insensitive.”
The second user commented: “And thousands gathered to see him. Personally, I feel dude haana dambudziko but those gathered to see him punching the bag.”
A third user replied: “We are sick in the head, how does this benefit our communities???”
A fourth user said:” Hanzi he is marketing Zimbabwe.”
A fifth user said: “Marketing Zimbabwe to Zimbabweans…akin to selling ice to an Eskimo
Another user reacted: “From what we saw on Aljazeera . . . something underhand is going on . . . absolutely.”
The retired American boxing legend is one of the greatest boxers of all time and his success in the ring has enabled him to accumulate enormous wealth throughout his career.
Mayweather’s net worth is US$450 million dollars and he has earned more than US$1.1 billion dollars throughout his career, making him the richest boxer of all time. The Money Man recently launched his line of top shelf champaigne.
He remains an inspiration to many sport enthusiasts.
