Harare – For the elderly residents of Sunningdale and people living with disabilities, last weekend was about more than food hampers.
It was about being seen, remembered and cared for.
Under the gentle winter sun, the Selekta Base Foundation—founded by Arnold Tinashe Chigwerewere, popularly known as Selekta Base—brought relief and hope to the community through the donation of food hampers, living out its theme: “Together We Can Make a Difference.”

Smiles, handshakes and quiet words of gratitude filled the air as beneficiaries received essentials that will help ease daily struggles.
For many, the visit was a reminder that compassion still exists, even in difficult times.
The initiative drew the support of His Worship, the Mayor of Harare, Councillor Jacob Mafume, who attended the event and applauded the foundation’s consistent commitment to uplifting communities.
In a statement, the City of Harare commended Chigwerewere for using his platform to drive positive change.
Mayor Mafume highlighted not only the foundation’s charitable work but also its role in creating employment opportunities and contributing to the city’s vibrant entertainment and cultural scene.

“This kind of initiative shows how individuals and community organisations can complement the work of local authorities,” the Mayor noted.
The event was made possible through a collective effort, with bike clubs, car clubs, friends and supporters rallying behind the cause—turning the donation drive into a true show of unity.
Speaking through a message shared at the event, Selekta Base captured the spirit of the day:
“You do not have to wait until you are rich to help those in need. Giving back starts with compassion, unity and action.”
Beyond the celebration, Mayor Mafume also took time to engage residents on the challenges facing Harare, including water shortages, sewer problems and deteriorating roads.
He reassured the community that the city council is working with government to find lasting solutions.
As the day came to a close, the Selekta Base Foundation reaffirmed its pledge to continue its charitable initiatives throughout the year—one community, one act of kindness at a time—proving that when people come together, real change is possible.
