Prioritise medical aid ahead of funeral cover says Dr Chanakira

Renowned businessman and life coach — Dr Nigel Chanakira — has urged citizens to prioritise medical cover ahead of funeral policies saying medical insurance perpetration rate is at less than 5 percent in Zimbabwe due to cultural beliefs.

Dr Chanakira said this at the launch of Corporate 24’s new customized medical aid cover — MyPlan — that provides for customers to choose specific medical services and benefits they want to pay for, rather than opting for the traditional one-size-fits-all bundled plan.

“Low-cost initiatives are welcome to increase uptake and hence even encouraging the employers to afford some sort of cover.

“More people are on funeral cover than medical aid cover due to our cultural beliefs. And products like MyPlan are a good initiative as they offer the opportunity to mass market to join medical aid. It allows the general populace to access healthcare,” Dr Chanakira said.

Dr Chanakira emphasized that prevention was better than cure and the living should invest in their health and wellness rather than death.

“The USPs of MyPlan a medical aid that allows you to choose the benefits you want covered is a very welcome development as life is about choices. It’s budget friendly,” he said.

Added to this, MyPlan is incredibly easy to use from the subscription stage, with the introduction of a chatbot accessible through WhatsApp.

You simply send a ‘Hi’ to the chatbot platform, and everything you need is readily available. The payment platform is also integrated.

Corporate 24 founder and chief executive, Dr Mike Joka said MyPlan cover targets the poor to access affordable and comprehensive private healthcare service for all.

“We understand that people are struggling financially, many earn less than US$350 per month, and even those earning US$500 or less struggle to make ends meet.

“The reality is that people are living from hand to mouth and private healthcare is simply out of reach for many,” Dr Joka said.

Dr Joka said the company was committed to providing a product that was both affordable and provides essential healthcare benefits.

“We are trying to make a difference in the lives of Zimbabweans. We believe that everyone deserves access to quality healthcare, regardless of their income,” he said.
