Agriculture, insurance and governance consultant Judith Buzuzi has been elected president of the Chartered Governance and Accountancy Institute in Zimbabwe for the next two years.
She has diverse private and public sector experience in business leadership, agriculture and insurance. She was previously one of the institute’s two vice-presidents.
Ms Buzuzi replaces Mr Jonathan Dube, who has served the past two years as the institute’s president. Ms Lifneth Moyo was re-elected vice-president. Nyaradzo Funeral Group finance director Tendayi Kanjanda was elected the other institute vice-president.
Commenting on her election to head the institute, Ms Buzuzi said it was an honour and great responsibility to have been chosen to lead the Chartered Governance and Accountancy Institute in Zimbabwe.
“It is the only chartered governance institute in Zimbabwe, having been established in Zimbabwe by an Act of Parliament, and is a division of the global Chartered Governance Institute, which is recognised as the leading governance institute worldwide,” she pointed out.
“The institute has been critical and pivotal in not only shaping governance and accountancy professionals but also in contributing to thought leadership in both the public and private sector in Zimbabwe. The global institute is also well known for thought leadership in governance,” she said.
“We contribute to policy through contributions to the national budget and statutory instruments that affect governance and have collaborated with other institutions in working towards the implementation of national blueprints and goals such as Vision 2030,” she said.
Given the importance of small and medium sized businesses in Zimbabwe’s economy, Ms Buzuzi has adopted for her term of office the theme ‘Building transformative SME governance for inclusive sustained economic growth and development’.
Ms Buzuzi was one of the first women Agricultural Extension and Technical Officers and aCiba- Geigy Agronomist in the 1980s.
She went on to hold managerial positions and executive positions with the Agricultural Finance Company, Zimnat Lion Insurance Company, Botswana Insurance Company, Health and Hygiene and Suremed Health Insurance.
She was a Commissioner with the Zimbabwe Land Commission from 2016 to 2021. In addition to her other responsibilities, she has been providing consultancy services for agriculture, insurance and governance since 2007.
She holds a Master of Science degree in Strategic Management from the University of Derby (UK) and a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture from the University of Zimbabwe. In addition to her Chartered Governance Professional qualification, she is also an associate member of the Chartered Insurance Institute (UK).
Ms Lifneth Moyo has diverse experience in finance and entrepreneurship development spanning more than 29 years. This includes extensive experience under Empretec Zimbabwe where she has provided leadership, management and business development and coordinated entrepreneurship programmes. She has vast banking experience, having worked for the People’s Own Savings Bank (POSB} for more than 11 years.
Mr Kanjanda has 35 years’ experience in insurance and pensions, more than 20 years of which has been at a senior executive level. Among the organisations he has worked for previously are Old Mutual, Fidelity Life, the Local Authorities Pension Fund, the Motor Industry Pension Fund and the Mining Industry Pension Fund, where he was Chief Executive Officer.
He holds a Master of Business Administration (Financial Services) degree from the University of Zimbabwe and a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree in Applied Accounting from the Oxford Brooks University in the United Kingdom.
