Under the visionary leadership of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, Zimbabwe’s war veterans, especially those in rural areas, are witnessing a transformation in their lives through groundbreaking initiatives aimed at uplifting their living standards.
Despite the relentless attempts by political enemies to undermine his efforts, President Mnangagwa remains steadfast in his commitment to honor the sacrifices made by those who fought for the country’s liberation.
The Second Republic, led by President Mnangagwa, continues to execute far-reaching empowerment programs that ensure no one and no place is left behind.
These programs include the Presidential War Veterans Rural Housing Scheme, the drilling of boreholes, and the groundbreaking US$1.5 million revolving fund which will be given more financial resources so that many war veterans will benefit.
These initiatives not only provide immediate relief but also create sustainable livelihoods for war veterans.
The newly launched Presidential War Veterans Rural Housing, Solar and Borehole Schemes is a game-changer for thousands rural-based veterans of the liberation struggle.
This initiative complements other ongoing programs and is set to provide these veterans with decent housing, fully equipped with solar energy solutions to enhance their daily lives.
And those war veterans in urban centres will be assisted to get residential stands and will get building materials and more programmes designed to benefit war veterans are being planned and President Mnangagwa’s passion not to leave anyone behind has mandated patriotic individuals like Dr Paul Tungwarara to professionally spearhead these programmes and mobilise millions of dollars for the funding of these programmes.
Dr Paul Tungwarara, is the Special Presidential Investment Adviser to the United Arab Emirates, led the launch of this initiative in Makoni West, Rusape, Manicaland province.
Within 48 hours of the pilot project, eight solarised boreholes were successfully drilled at war veterans’ homes, a testament to the swift and impactful actions of the President’s administration.
As part of the President’s commitment to the welfare of war veterans, Manicaland province also received initial US$150,000 from the War Veterans Fund, with the overall fund expected to grow to US$10 million by June 2025.
Each province is set to receive US$1 million, ensuring that the benefits of these initiatives are felt across the nation.
The initiative has garnered praise from key leaders, including Makoni West Member of Parliament, Dr Jenfan Muswere, who lauded President Mnangagwa’s leadership in improving the welfare of war veterans.
“Due to President Mnangagwa’s excellent leadership, the land is now being transferred into the hands of the black majority, and with the introduction of the title deeds scheme, we now have security of tenure,” he remarked, highlighting the lasting positive changes being brought about by the President’s policies.
Furthermore, Minister of Veterans Affairs Senator Monica Mavhunga expressed her gratitude for the Presidential borehole drilling scheme, noting that it empowers war veterans to engage in income-generating projects that also benefit surrounding communities.
She acknowledged that while the program may have started later than expected, it is President Mnangagwa’s leadership that has made it a reality, underscoring the tangible improvements being made in the lives of war veterans.
ZANU PF Secretary for War Veterans, Cde Douglas Mahiya, emphatically declared, “War veterans are truly excited; the President has remembered the war veterans, and we wish for this to continue to happen because this did not happen over the past 40 years, and it is happening now.”
His words resonate with the deep sense of gratitude and hope that war veterans feel, knowing that their struggles are being addressed by a President who values their sacrifices.
In addition to these housing and infrastructure developments, President Mnangagwa’s leadership has brought forth the US$1.5 million Presidential War Veterans Fund.
President Mnangagwa’s decision to implement the fund without delay shows his deep understanding of the urgency of addressing the needs of war veterans.
The fund operates through a unique revolving loan system, where beneficiaries receive interest-free loans that are paid back to ensure that the support continues to benefit future generations of war veterans.
While detractors may continue to oppose and undermine President Mnangagwa’s efforts, the truth is clear: under his leadership, tangible steps are being taken to transform the lives of those who fought for Zimbabwe’s freedom.
His actions speak louder than the words of his political opponents, and the war veterans are living proof that the President’s promises are not empty rhetoric but a true reflection of his leadership.
Those who are opposing these programmes have a certain hidden agenda where they wanted war veterans to suffer and politicize their suffering and turn then against the President and are not happy with these initiatives and they are attacking the chief coordinator of these programmes Dr Tungwarara.
They don’t want anyone to say anything positive or good about the President and they want the President to go for their selfish interests.
And they will never applaud the President for all his good works because their greediness for power and they want power today and they can’t wait for 2028.
The future is brighter for Zimbabwe’s war veterans, thanks to President Mnangagwa’s unwavering dedication to honoring their legacy.
