Harare — The highly anticipated Zambezi 7s Challenge Tournament is set to make its return for the fifth edition from November 8 to 9, 2025, at the Harare Sports Club, promising two days of top-tier rugby, community spirit, and vibrant entertainment.
Sponsored by Zambezi Lager, the tournament has grown since its 2021 debut into one of Africa’s premier rugby sevens events, attracting elite clubs and national teams from across the continent and beyond.
This year’s edition marks another milestone in the competition’s evolution — expanding its inclusivity and scale with the introduction of more local clubs and a strengthened women’s tournament.
The 2025 tournament welcomes the Kenyan national team for the first time, joining a strong field that includes Zimbabwe’s Zambezi Cheetahs and Zambia’s national team.
Local rugby fans can also look forward to the participation of leading clubs such as Mutare Sports Club, Old Miltonians (Bulawayo), Old Georgians, Old Hararians, Pitbulls, and the Zimbabwe Republic Police team.
In the women’s division, five international teams are confirmed — two from Zambia, two from Zimbabwe, and one from Botswana — underscoring the tournament’s commitment to developing women’s rugby across Southern Africa.
Big Prizes, Bigger Action
A total prize pool of US$14,500 will be up for grabs this year, split evenly between the men’s and women’s competitions.

With previous champions including the Botswana Spartans (2021), Germany (2022), and Zimbabwe’s Zambezi Cheetahs, who clinched back-to-back titles in 2023 and 2024, the stage is set for an electrifying battle for regional dominance.

Organisers say this year’s tournament is not just about competition but also celebrating unity and inclusion within the rugby community.
