Zimbabwe’s sungura musicians, Alick Macheso and Mark Ngwazi, will square off this Saturday at the Harare International Conference Centre, in what promises to be borrowdale dance movers and shakers epic.
This would be the second time this year after the two clashed during Chipaz Promotions’ Sungura Fest which drew record crowd at Pamuzinda Highway Xscape.
The expectation is high with enthusiasm and anticipation build-up that a repeat of the previous hot gig will be a music earthquake again this weekend.
The Sungura Blast comes to the stage courtesy of Gateway Stream.
Both Macheso and Ngwazi are ruling the roost in so far as sungura music is concerned with fans divided as to who is the best.
In a recent interview on one of the radio stations Ngwazi quipped that his beat being mistaken for Macheso aka Baba Shero was big in itself.
This is testament that he is happy to be on the curve to reach the high bar set by his mentor, Alick Macheso.
And yes, Ngwazi’s creativity has given him that edge that perhaps many are beginning to give him an ear.
It is not easy to standout in sungura music where several talented artists are coming up almost everyday.
But for Ngwazi and the Njanja Express have looked outside the box to even sing in English something that was unheard of during the formative years of sungura music.
Other artists lined-up are Nicholas Zakaria, Suluman Chimbetu, Shantel Sithole and Audinance Kuimba.
Gateway Stream Music Manager Elton Kurima said local talent was as good as regional or international acts.
The popular Star FM DJ Ndumiso “The SkyWalker” will be the emcee.
The concert will also be streamed on the Gateway Stream Music Pay Per View platform. Made a date!
