Empowered Students Returns: Purpose, Resilience & Inclusion

Staff Writer

Harare – The Empowered Students Workshop, a trusted youth development initiative launched two years ago, returns on Saturday 2 May at the Archdiocese of Harare Jubilee Center with a focus on purpose, resilience, and inclusion.

The most recent edition, held in January, was met with overwhelming success, inspiring hundreds of students with practical tools for life and leadership.

The one-day workshop will be led by award-winning Life Coach Tafadzwa ‘Coach Taf’ Mukoyi as the main speaker and will be moderated by seasoned marketer and entrepreneur Lucia Tarie Urayai.

She brings years of experience in guiding young people and professionals toward clarity, confidence, and impact.

Supporting Coach Taf is a distinguished team of mentors and special guests who embody courage, creativity, and determination.

Creative entrepreneur, singer, TV Presenter and author Adiona Chidzonga will join teen author and entrepreneur Yeshua Dzumbira, award-winning public speaker and teen entrepreneur Quinton Dongo, and LCBL Catholic nun Sister Diana Kanyere, who has spent over three decades empowering young people and instilling strong moral values.

The workshop will also feature special guests whose personal journeys reflect the power of resilience.

Two young change makers will bring a particularly powerful message. Tadiwa Chiposi, a disabled teenager and community influencer will inspire physically challenged young people to pursue their passions against all odds.

Blessing Fire, born with deformed legs and reliant on a wheelchair from a young age, was once told he would never walk.

Through extraordinary fighting spirit and determination, he taught himself to walk and dance using his arms and hands.

Today he stands as an award-winning dancer and entrepreneur, proving that limitations exist only in the mind.

At its core, the workshop is built around three pillars that help shape a young person’s future; Goal Setting and Focus, and Purity and Purpose and Digital Responsibility.

Students will leave equipped with practical strategies to use technology wisely, set and pursue meaningful goals, and live with clarity and integrity.

Inclusion sits at the heart of this year’s edition. Students from local orphanages are being invited so that orphaned and vulnerable children can learn and grow alongside their peers. Individuals and organizations who would like to sponsor an orphan to attend are warmly welcome to do so.

This support ensures that no young person is excluded from mentorship and inspiration because of their circumstances.

When a child who has faced hardship sits in the same room as others from different backgrounds, learning from the same mentors, it restores dignity, builds hope, and affirms that they belong and that their life has purpose.

The presence of Tadiwa Chiposi and Blessing Fire is intentional. Their stories show students that adversity does not define destiny.

For parents of children living with disabilities, this is an opportunity for their children to see relatable role models who have turned challenges into triumphs.

It sends a clear message that their child’s potential is limitless.

For able-bodied students, interacting with peers and mentors living with disabilities from a young age cultivates empathy, breaks down stigma, and teaches that every person has value and contribution.

When children grow up understanding and respecting difference, they become adults who build more compassionate and inclusive communities.

Speaking on the vision behind the workshop, organizer Liz Dziva said: “We created this platform because we believe every young person, regardless of their background or ability, deserves to see what is possible for their life. When students sit in the same space with mentors who have overcome real challenges, something shifts in them. They begin to believe that their circumstances do not have to limit their future.”

Coach Taf Mukoyi added: “This workshop is about reminding young people that their identity is not shaped by what they lack, but by what they choose to become.

Purpose is the anchor, and when a young person discovers it, no obstacle can hold them back. That is the mindset we are building in this room.”

Since its launch two years ago, the Empowered Students Workshop has become a catalyst for personal growth and community impact.

By bringing together students from different backgrounds, the workshop fosters dignity, hope, and a shared sense of belonging. Exhibition opportunities are also available.
