Driving Agricultural Growth for Community Empowerment

Medelina Magwenzi, Provincial Director for Mashonaland West, played a key role in coordinating a recent high-level visit by the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Hon Marian Chombo, and Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Anxious Masuka, to Victory Farm and the Grain Marketing Board (GMB) in Mhangura.

In her leadership role, Magwenzi oversees the implementation of government programs focused on agricultural development and community empowerment.

She works closely with farmers, government departments, and the private sector to promote innovative farming methods, enhance food security, and encourage sustainable partnerships.

The tour of Victory Farm—run as a joint venture between farmer Tichaona Mapfoche and Colonel Shorai Chiripanyanga—highlighted the potential of collaborative agriculture.

The thriving wheat fields were a testament to the success of modern farming techniques being adopted in the region.

Dr. Masuka praised the initiative, saying, “This farm is a shining example of what can be achieved through hard work and dedication.

The government remains committed to supporting farmers like you, and we are excited about the transformative impact of such initiatives.”

Among the visitors was Namibian MP Hon. Paulus N. Mbangu, who lauded the partnership and foresaw opportunities for deeper collaboration between Namibia and Zimbabwe. “This visit is no coincidence,” he remarked. “We are here to learn and build lasting partnerships that will benefit both our countries.”

The delegation also toured the GMB Mhangura grain silos, now 78% complete. The state-of-the-art facility impressed both ministers, who emphasized its importance in strengthening agricultural infrastructure.

“This is a game-changer for our farmers,” said Hon. Chombo. “Modern silos will minimize post-harvest losses and improve crop quality, moving us closer to national food security and economic stability.”

The ministers attributed the success of these projects to President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s vision of community empowerment through agriculture.

They emphasized the critical role of public-private partnerships in driving progress and uplifting livelihoods.

“As government, we recognize the power of collaboration,” Dr. Masuka added. “By supporting innovative agriculture and investing in infrastructure, we are building a brighter, more secure future for our people.”

The visit underscored Zimbabwe’s commitment to agricultural transformation and regional cooperation, with promising prospects for shared growth between Zimbabwe and Namibia.
