Mufakose-based Dinhe dance group came tops in the Chibuku Neshamwari Traditional Dance competition 2024 in Harare province over the weekend.
Culture Warriors who were clad in fitting traditional outfits performed the celebratory dance which marks a bumper harvest much to the delight of the audiences that thronged Padziva Bar in Dzivarasekwa.
In second position was another Mufakose outfit Shingai Dance Troupe that performed Mbakumba while in third place was Villa Kutinyu Angoni Nyau Club (Achewa Gure) based in Dzivarasekwa.
The nyau group also mersmerised the crowd with decent choreography backed by drummers and women vocalists.
The Chibuku Neshamwari Traditional Dance Festival 2024 Festival commenced on 11 May 2024 and will culminate in the national finals on 27 July 2024.
Proudly presented in collaboration with the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ) and the Zimbabwe National Traditional Dance Association (ZNTDA), the Chibuku Neshamwari Traditional Dance Festival 2024 will celebrate culture through traditional dance with the theme “Tamba Tione, Gida Sibone!”
Last year’s celebration marked 60 years and was awarded the Diamond Winner for Best Corporate Event of the Year at the National Exceptional Marketing Awards hosted by MAZ.
Irimayi Muzorewa (DELTA CORPORATION, Marketing Director) said the Chibuku brand looks forward to an exciting festival this year as it connects with its consumers through culture, dance, and heritage.
“Ten provincial finals will be conducted, as a build-up to the national finals, where provincial finalists will compete for the first prize. Winners stand a chance to walk away with monetary prizes at both provincial and national level,” Muzorewa said. Participants are required to register their groups with the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe and ZNTDA to be able to participate.
