Former National Arts Council of Zimbabwe director — Nicholas Moyo — recently bade farewell to arts fraternity at a dinner hosted for him by show promoters.
The promoters pulled their resources together in honour of Moyo whose passion for the arts sector was exceptional.
This came after Moyo was elevated to the position of Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Sports, Arts and Recreation.
Pror to the appointment, Moyo started out as a filmmaker in the mid 1990s and then theatre working alongside the likes of Albert Nyathi.
While he was good as an artist Moyo developed an interest in art administration having enrolled at Belvedere Teachers college where he met his wife Tsitsi.
He was to join the NACZ as an arts administrator at provincial level and rose through the ranks to become the NACZ director.
Speaking at the dinner Moyo jokingly said he learnt of his appointment through social media.
“I called my wife to come and pick me at the office to try and avoid people from congratulating me because I was still in shock. However, I knew I was the one even though I knew there were many Nicholas Moyos in this country,” he said to loud applause from the crowd.
Representing the arts promoters, national president Josh Hozheri hailed Moyo for cordial relations with the artists and being a good listener.
Hozheri said they wished to continue with the good working relationship with the Ministry of Sports, Arts and Recreation and hoped for better things in future.
Partson Chimbodza of Chipaz Promotions also handed over a gift of marimba to Moyo much to his delight.
Dub poet Albeti Nyathi narrated Moyo’s background and journey into the arts since the two worked together.
Nyathi wished Moyo the best as he undertakes his new mandate as a senior government official.
Several artists across the arts sector among them National Gallery of Zimbabwe director Raphael Chikukwa, Musayemura Zimunya, Tanga WeKwaSando, Kireni Zulu, Dereck Mpofu, Mono Mukundu, poet Mambo Giuvamatanga, Chirikure Chirikure attended the event.
