The Monavo, Mayrick Park, and Sherwood communities have partnered with Environmental Management Agency ahead of World clean Up day slated for tomorrow.
The clean-up which was coordinated by the Sherwood community through the Sherwood Golf Club management emphasizes the need for the establishment of cleaner communities.
The campaign is set to consolidate standing efforts by the community to work hand in hand with key waste management stakeholders council and the regulator EMA.
“We have been working hand in glove with key stakeholders to realise a cleaner community. We had a case were the shops and bottle store were littering public places and we engaged EMA and we managed to identify the shops and they had to clean their dumps.”Mr Briggs Bomba the Sherwood Golf Club Chairperson said.
Through the clean-up campaign we have solidified partnerships with our community and council through cleaning our community and utilizing proper waste management strategies.
“For this program we have partnered the community and council, the latter have cleared this program and given us permission to utilize the human resource and transport availed by communities for the purpose of cleaning our community and transporting the waste to Pomona dumpsite.” Mr Bhomba also said.
The organizers emphasized the need for communities in Zimbabwe to value the need for clean environments and work towards complementing government efforts.
“the environment is our biggest inheritance and there is need for us to safeguard it for our children as our forefathers preserved it for us. Communities have to be aware that the need to keep our environs clean is our responsibility and charity has to begin at home.” Takawira Shumbayaruma the program coordinator.
A clean environment is an imperative for sustainable development and mitigating the effects of climate change aswell as complementing the Government initiated clean up Fridays which were hampered by COVID-19.
