Organisers of the popular 100 Sound Clash have announced September 2, 2023 as the date for this year’s popular reggae/dancehall event.
The clash which is organized by Chipaz Promotions led by Partson Chimbodza returns to his popular haunt — the City Sports Centre also known as City Ngoma or simply KuGomba, just outside the city centre close to the Harare Exhibition Park.
There is a history behind City Sports Centre where dreams were made and also broken for many upcoming and established musicians.
Whenever, the City Sports Centre hosts the 100 Sound Clash fans also throng in their numbers to enjoy good vibes and also new talents.
It was at City Sports Centre where back in the day, Jah B of Stereo One would thrill reggae/dancehall lovers together with the likes of Major E, Etherton Beenie, Booker T and late Fleeceman.
So this year, Chipaz Promotions said they were going back to basics from where it all started from as they paid tribute to the torch bearers of Zim dancehall.
“We need new voices and we decided to carry the legacy left by Stereo One’s Jah B (MHSRIP) also appreciating Major E, Booker T, Etherton beenie and the late Fleeceman these guys did a lot that brought Winky D, Dadza D and Ricky Fire to limelight,” Chimboda aka Chipaz said.
For this year’s edition, Chipaz Promotions roped the expertise of Etherton Beenie, Gary B, Godfather Templeman and DJ Fantan of ChillSpot Records who is championing the discovery of raw talent.
“The show is set for the 2nd of September, and it will be hosted at City Sports Center (Ku Gomba).
“This event is Zimdancehall’s annual general meeting where a lot of talent has been discovered and musical careers have been strengthened in the past. It’s definitely a must attend. Foĺlow for updates as we draw closer to the big day. #sawa,” DJ Fantan posted on his Facebook page.
“Oh, what a night it is going to be. Now, if you have your own sound or you are a DJ and you want to participate, call (# is on the posta) to register.”
The 100 Sound Clash is basically a Face-off between DJs and selectors where they take turns to thrill the crowds.
Whoever rocks the crowd the most gets into the penultimatum like it used to be done back in the days.
So, the judge and the jury will the crowd who will determine who proceeds into the next round and the show is fast paced, high on thrills and spills.
Those who know the history of Jah B will attest that he was good at it that he would introduce new tunes everytime and the crowd loved it.
