Zimbabwe’s top reggae DJ Dennis Wilson has died aged 66.
Wilson collapsed at his home in Alex Park, Harare after a short illness.
A source told Gem Nation News that the veteran reggae DJ and singer collapsed at his home and when the ambulance was called in he was pronounced dead.
“He had been unwell or the last few days and we advised him to go for Covid-19 test but unfortunately he was unable to do that,” she source said.
Wilson popularized the Rockers Reggae show he presented on Power FM then Radio 3. His signature tune by Freddie McGregor titled Push Comes to Shove brought joy to many of his followers.
He also guested some of the best Jamaican musicians on the show making it one of the most listened to shows on Radio 3.
Besides rocking radio, Wilson also staged well attended reggae gigs in and around the capital Harare.
Besides deejaying, Wilson was a vocalist of note and at the time of his death he was a member of popular reggae group — Transit Crew — where he shared the stage with the likes of veteran bassist Master Pablo Nakappa.
He lived by himself while his family was based in Jamaica.
Mourners are gathered at Alex Park in Harare.
