Zimbabwe is experiencing a seasonal rise in flu cases, with over 12,000 suspected infections reported in the week ending June 26, 2025.
Health officials say the spike is expected and not cause for alarm.
Dr. Kudzai Masunda, Secretary General of the Zimbabwe College of Public Health Physicians, said the country typically sees increased flu activity from late June through July, with peak weeks reaching up to 14,000 cases.
“This is part of our normal flu season,” Dr. Masunda noted. “The virus spreads easily when people gather, so staying home when sick and avoiding crowded spaces can help reduce transmission.”
Encouragingly, the Ministry of Health’s surveillance data shows no recent COVID-19 cases, confirming that current concerns are limited to seasonal influenza.
Health experts advise the public to practice good hygiene, stay home when unwell, and seek medical care if symptoms worsen.
While widespread, the flu remains manageable with proper precautions.
