Zimbabwe Music Awards organisers have been pushed back the date for the ceremony in light of spike in Covid-19 cases in the country.
In a statement, Benji Nyandoro, the spokesperson said the change in date was caused by efforts to curtail the spread of Covid-19.
“ZIMA wishes to inform all music stakeholders that ZIMA2021 awards ceremony has been rescheduled to Saturday 20 February 2021.
“This has been necessitated by the ongoing developments around concerted efforts to curtail the further spread of COVID-19 and possibly find a lasting solution to this pandemic,” he said.
“Resolves to contain the spread of the vicious global pandemic COVID-19 necessitated the adoption of safe practices and among others, discouraged gatherings or holding of live events. The world of music was certainly not spared.”
He said by close of submissions as at December 31, 2020, Zimbabwe Music Awards had received more than 1235 music submissions across 30 categories.
“Impressive and surely well deserving of a befitting awards ceremony. Of special interest is the buzz around the newly introduced COVID-19 Awareness Song Category and response thereof,” he said.
The adjudication process currently underway will culminate in announcement of ZIMA 2021 Nominees on Wednesday 27 January 2021. “We hope that by February 20th, the environment will be more conducive to holding the awards ceremony whilst still adhering to safe health practices,” he said.
