Shanghai, China — A high-level Zimbabwean delegation attending the 8th China International Import Expo (CIIE) has struck a significant deal to bring advanced mechanised mining technologies and green infrastructure solutions to local industries, marking a new step toward sustainable resource development.
The delegation — led by ZANU PF Politburo Secretary for Economic Affairs, Cde Lt Gen (Rtd) Dr Engelbert Rugeje — includes Ministers of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, representatives from ZimTrade, and members of the private sector.

While attending the global trade showcase, the Zimbabwean officials held a strategic meeting with executives from FENY Company, a Hunan Province-based firm renowned for its expertise in mine backfill technology, eco-friendly infrastructure, and heavy equipment manufacturing.
Cde Rugeje, accompanied by ZANU PF Director for Economic Affairs, Hon. Anastancia Ndhlovu, engaged with Mr. Huang Jing, FENY shareholder, director and deputy general manager; Mr. Dai Bin Ben, head of FENY Zimbabwe; Mr. Deng Fangjian, FENY board secretary; and Mr. Yan Sui, the company’s international business manager.
FENY currently operates in Indonesia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Zambia, and has begun operations in Silobela, Midlands Province, Zimbabwe.
Boosting Zimbabwe’s Mining Growth
Zimbabwe’s mining industry continues to post impressive growth in 2025, driven largely by gold production and new technology adoption.
The partnership with FENY is expected to help local mining companies address operational challenges through integrated backfill systems and advanced mechanisation.
Cde Rugeje noted that gold output surged by 44%, reinforcing the mineral’s position as the backbone of Zimbabwe’s exports.
“Coal production also grew by 4%, driven by fresh investments and increased regional energy demand,” he added.
Zimbabwe now contributes about 3.5% of global gold output, maintaining its position among Africa’s leading producers of the yellow metal.
The country is also seeing increased investment in lithium, iron, and steel production, as part of ongoing economic transformation efforts.
Cde Rugeje credited the progress to President Dr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa’s “Zimbabwe is Open for Business” policy, which has enhanced investor confidence.
“As a result, Zimbabwe now ranks among the top five economies in Southern Africa,” he said.
Strengthening Bilateral and Cultural Ties
Following the engagement with FENY, the delegation toured Chairman Mao Zedong’s hometown, a site of great historical and revolutionary significance in Hunan Province.
The team later travelled to Shanghai to attend the Global Trade and International Logistics Summit, one of several high-level side events at this year’s CIIE.
The China International Import Expo, running from November 5 to 12, 2025, continues to serve as a key platform for fostering China–Africa cooperation, promoting investment, and showcasing trade opportunities aligned with sustainable development.
