Zim exhibits at Venice Biennale for 7 consecutive years

CAPTION STORY: ZIMBABWE has once again become one of the must-visit pavilions at the 60th Venice Biennale having exhibited at the international art showcase for the last seven consecutive years, a remarkable achievement set by executive director of National Art Gallery of Zimbabwe and commissioner Raphael Chikukwa.

Exhibiting at this year’s showcases are some of Zimbabwe’s crème-dela-crème Gillian Rosselli, Sekai Machache, Victor Nyakauru, Moffat Takadiwa, Kombo Chapfika and Troy Makaza. The six artists are exhibiting in Venice Italy from 20 April 2024 up until 24 November 2024. the exhibition is Curated by Fadzai Veronica Muchemwa. “As Government, we have seen many careers flourish from this platform” Dr. Coventry said; “In line with NDS1, this platform has been critical in the Image Building and persuasion of international cooperation and it offers new engagement in the Cultural sphere.”

“Furthermore, it is in the Government interest to promote artists not only in Zimbabwe but at a Global stage like the Venice Biennale,” Minister of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation, the Honourable Dr. Kirsty Coventry was quoted as saying. Some of the Pavilion of Zimbabwe alumni are Portia Zvavahera, Virginia Chihota, Misheck Masamvu, Gareth Nyandoro, Masimba Hwati, Dana Whabira, Kresiah Mukwazhi, Wallen Mapondera and Ronald Muchatuta.
