Zanu PF has launched a nationwide cell verification exercise as part of efforts to strengthen its grassroots structures and modernize party operations.
The ruling party sees this move as central to consolidating its support base and enhancing internal organization ahead of future political activity.
Speaking during a Special Provincial Coordinating Committee (PCC) meeting in Chinhoyi, Politburo member and Secretary for ICT, Hon. Ziyambi Ziyambi, said the exercise aims to clean up party membership records and ensure accurate data on the ground.
“Cells are the foundation of Zanu PF. This verification helps us measure our real membership and plan effectively,” Ziyambi said, emphasizing the need for transparency and digital integration.
The initiative, which started in Harare and Bulawayo, is being extended across all provinces in the next two weeks. Ziyambi announced that the party will soon roll out an electronic membership system to allow direct communication between leadership and the grassroots.
“This digital database will help us stay connected with members in real-time. Our Secretary General will even be able to send SMS updates directly to individuals,” he added.
Zanu PF also reaffirmed its commitment to development, with Ziyambi highlighting ongoing projects in roads, schools, health, and agriculture.
Mashonaland West Provincial Chairperson, Mary Mliswa-Chikoka, said the cell verification process is key to rooting out inactive or “ghost” members.
“Cell structures are our mobilisation engine. They help deliver government programs and shape election strategies. This cleanup will give us an engaged and accountable base,” she noted.
She also urged MPs to remain visible in their constituencies and align their work with Vision 2030.
“MPs must not go AWOL. You need to keep returning to your communities, ensuring government projects are reaching the people and their needs are addressed,” Mliswa-Chikoka said.
The party hopes that the exercise will result in a leaner, stronger, and more responsive Zanu PF as it looks to future elections and governance goals.
