Preparations for 42nd edition of Zimbabwe’s Independence celebrations and children’s party set for Bulawayo’s home of football are on course.
The Independence celebrations will be held at Barbourfields while the children’s party is scheduled for State House.
According to the Cabinet’s Spokesperson, Senator Monica Mutsvangwa; “The nation is being informed that preparations for the celebrations are in full swing, and His Excellency the President will address the nation from Barbourfields Stadium in Bulawayo on 18 April 2022.”
Cabinet also informed the change of venue for the Children’s party from the previously announced Khumalo Hockey Stadium to the City’s Statehouse with over one thousand learner’s in attendance.
“This year’s Children’s Party will be held at State House in Bulawayo, and not Khumalo Hockey Stadium as alluded to earlier, and will be attended by 1 090 learners. The number of learners has been increased in order to afford the children from Bulawayo an opportunity to interact with the First Family.” The Minister of Information Media Pubicity and Broadcasting Services also said
The themes for the mass displays usually carried out by the security services, schools and the general entertainment fraternity have been approved with training having commenced on the 23rd of this month.
“On a related matter, Cabinet approved the themes for the mass displays and the training for the mass displays commenced on 23 March, 2022.” Minister Mutsvangwa also emphasized.
The 42nd independence flame will be lit at Khami Monument before being paraded through most of the City’s Western suburbs on its way to the Bulawayo Natural Museum of Zimbabwe.
“The nation is being advised that the Independence Flame will be taken from Khami Monument through Bulawayo suburbs on 17 April, 2022, on its way to the Bulawayo Natural Museum of Zimbabwe. It will pass through the following suburbs: Nkulumane; Nketa; Emganwini; Tshabalala; Phelandaba; Pumula; Magwegwe; Gwabalanda; Luveve; Emakhandeni; Entumbane and then the Central Business District.” The Chairperson of the Post Cabinet brief also said.
The 2022 Independence celebrations will feature a gala on the 17th and midnight fireworks to be held at the venue respectively under COVID-19 regulations.
“The onset of the 42nd Anniversary Independence Day Celebrations will be marked by fireworks at midnight on 17 April 2022 and the Independence Gala will be held outside the Barbourfields Stadium on the 18th of April, 2022 in compliance with COVID-19 Protocols and Regulations.” The Minister of Information also said.
The Independence celebration’s come at a time there has been contesting opinions from Political player’s on the significance of the celebration’s following Zimbabwe’s continued economic stagnancy and argued human rights violations following the country’s independence.
