Luftansa operated Eurowings Discover is expected to land for the first time at the Victoria Falls International Airport Wednesday.
The direct route from Europe to the majestic Victoria Falls comes at a time when destination Zimbabwe is gearing up for tourism recovery since the world went into lockdown as a result of Covid-19 pandemic now reached endemic levels.
Speaking to Zimbabwe Tourism Authority head corporate affairs Godfrey Koti on the programme Tourism Update, Dr Andre Schultz, the general manager Southern & Eastern Africa Luftansa Group, said they were raring to go for the momentous occasion.
“We just arrived here at the airport to finalise the last preparations of the big event tomorrow. We’ve been all waiting for this day for quite a long time and now it’s only yah not even 24 hours to go until we see the first touchdown of Eurowings Discover Airbus A330 here in Victoria Falls. I think it’s exciting for us as an airline and it’s even more exciting for Victoria Falls as a destination.
“It’s gonna be quite exciting to see the first water salute for the airbus A330. We will have traditional dancers. We will have gifts for our passengers who are coming from cold European winter time into Zimbabwe. I’m sure it’s gonna be exciting time for all of us,” Dr Schultz said.
The colourful event will be graced by Tourism Minister Honourable Nqobizitha Ndhlovu and ZTA acting chief executive Mr Givemore Chidzidzi as well as tourism stakeholders.
The maiden trip also comes after Government on Tuesday okayed residents and visitors to no longer be requited to present a negative Covid-19 PCR certificate at the port of entry.
The visitors and residents are only required to present a valid vaccination certificate showing they were fully vaccinated. This means that negative PCR certificate is only for the unvaccinated.
