. . . Magistrate Verenga leads roadshow to take IECMS message to markets, bus terminuses and government offices

KARIBA — The Kariba community has been urged to embrace the new paperless court system as the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) rolls out Phase 4.4 of the Integrated Electronic Case Management System (IECMS) in Mashonaland West.
The awareness campaign came as Kariba Magistrates’ Court, led by Magistrate Edward Verenga, held a roadshow to educate residents on how to use the new digital platform.
The roadshow took the message to IECMS markets, bus terminuses and government offices, with court officials demonstrating how citizens can now file cases and follow them up without travelling to court.
Under Phase 4.4, all magistrates’ courts in Mashonaland West will go paperless. The IECMS is a unified digital platform that connects players in the justice delivery sector and tracks cases from filing to disposition and appeal.
According to the JSC, filing will now be done electronically while some hearings will be conducted virtually. Litigants can also check the status of their cases online.
“The IECMS will encourage collaboration, improve operational efficiency, communication, transparency and accountability, while saving time, paper and transport costs,” the JSC said in a statement.
The system will be used by judicial officers, Zimbabwe Republic Police, Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service, Law Society of Zimbabwe, attorneys, the Attorney-General’s Office, National Prosecuting Authority, ZACC, the Legal Aid Directorate, court messengers and members of the public.
Magistrate Verenga told residents that the system offers 24-hour availability and will reduce delays and costs associated with the old manual system.
Members of the public who want to file electronically need a computer, laptop or smartphone, internet connectivity and a valid email address. They can lodge documents from home or their offices.
The JSC said registration for IECMS is ongoing at any court station, and those already registered do not need to register again.
