Just when many thought Harare had retained its glow with the onset of the Stanbic Bank Jacaranda Music Festival alas, ZESA had other plans.
The festival was marred by electricity blackout on the first day of the three-day festival on Friday night at Alex Sports Club.
The situation could have degenerated into chaos had the electricity been restored within 30 or so minutes.
Clearly, the organisers Ngoma Nehosho should have made contingency plans to ensure there was a backup generator on stand-by.
The venue went into total darkness just when the fans and artists were warming up to the festival which boasts a stellar line up of local and regional artists.
Themed: “The Music, The City, The People,” the Stanbic Bank Jacaranda Music Festival first day had gotten to a good start up until the electricity blackout.
However, the party continued with Enzo Ishall putting up a great performance on the night.
The Chiraa singer performed Siki one of his chart toppers much to the delight of the audiences.
The female dancer was quite a marvel to watch with her energetic performances.
Also on the bill on the night were Dj King Her, Fusion 5 Mangwiro, Shabach The Band, Anita Jackson, Chucknoisis Monster DJ and Mord.
Saturday the party continues with Jah Prayzah, Gwevedzi, Mwenje Mathole, Bongo Maffin, The Black Spirits, among others.
Bongo Maffin is till a favourite of many since the days of The Way Kungakhona in 2001, the group always feel a lot like performing on home soil in Harare.
This is because the South African kwaito music group formed was originally formed by a Zimbabwe-born musician DJ Appleseed Johannesburg in 1996.
They released their first studio album, Leaders of D’Gong, in 1997, followed by The Concerto (1998) Bongolution (2001) and New Construction (2005).
The group consisted of four members namely Stone Seate, Jah Seed, Speedy and lead vocalist Lead singer Thandiswa Mazwai published her debut solo album, Zabalaza, in 2006, after the group departed ways.
On Sunday, the curtain comes down with Janet Manyowa being part of the line-up which includes Chiweddar DJ and Prudence Katomeni Mbofana.
