There was good cheer at Bumhudzo on Wednesday after Delta Corporation donated groceries at the old people’s home.
The groceries worth thousands of dollars were pooled from Delta Corporation staff’s own contributions.
In handing over the groceries, Patricia Murambinda, the Delta Corporation General Mananger – Corporate Affairs, thanked the staff for the good gesture.
She said as a big company Delta Corporation encouraged its workers to assist those in need.
“We are really concerned about the plight of the elderly. Some may not have relatives or children but we always respect the elders.
“And I would like to thank Delta Corporation staff in extending a hand to the elderly who are in need.
“My wish is that the workers keep on the spirit of giving for many years to come, at Delta Corporation we encourage our workers to give and not just take from the company and we are pleased to present the gifts,” Murambinda said.
Speaking on behalf of Bumhudzo which is run by The Salvation Army, Kennel Sipho Mbangwa showered praises on Delta Corporation for the support.
He said there was no gift too small or too big but it was the love that counts.
“For us this is huge because there was a gap and there was no budget to buy all the goodies that are here. This is like Christmas for the elderly and we really apricate the support and we salute you for being true friends,” Kennel Mbangwa said.
Uncle Raphael Anthony (65) who gave a vote of thanks spoke eloquently in English and thanked Delta Corporation saying it was a first since he moved at the home some three years ago.
Bumhudzo located in Chitungwiza was opened in 1974 aimed at caring for the destitute elderly above 60 and has been haven for the sick and homeless.
It has a capacity of 110 residents but nowadays there are only 27 people with 16 males and 11 females.
