Renowned traditional leader and philanthropist Sekuru Kamwelo Banda has opened the 2026 New Year with a strong show of political support for President Emmerson Mnangagwa, calling for national unity behind the government’s Vision 2030 agenda.
Addressing hundreds of residents during a large-scale gift-giving outreach in Karoi, Mashonaland West, Sekuru Banda urged Zimbabweans to rally behind the Second Republic, citing visible economic and infrastructure gains across the country.
He praised flagship projects such as the modernization of the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport and the construction of major roads and bridges, describing them as clear evidence of progress under President Mnangagwa’s leadership.
According to Banda, the developments have eased traffic congestion and improved everyday life for ordinary citizens.
Taking a spiritual perspective, the Muslim cleric said leadership is divinely ordained, declaring that President Mnangagwa is “Godly chosen” to guide Zimbabwe at a critical stage in its development. He appealed to citizens to rise above political divisions and work together to restore the country’s status as the “Breadbasket of Africa.”
Sekuru Banda also commended the President’s Zimbabwe Is Open for Business policy, noting continued growth in mining, agriculture, and tourism despite the impact of illegal economic sanctions.
Highlighting the government’s focus on young people, he described the youth as “the architects of the future” and said sustained investment in them remains key to long-term national development.
As the event concluded, Sekuru Banda reaffirmed his loyalty to the state and its leadership. “We see the strides being made, and we stand firmly behind the President’s vision for Zimbabwe,” he said.
The remarks have sparked widespread discussion in Mashonaland West, with many residents praising the traditional leader for blending philanthropy with a strong call for political stability and national progress.
