For most liquor outlets, selling beer at low prices isn’t good for business, you run the risk of operating at a loss.
But not in Bulawayo’s Luveve township.
It is there where you find the BIG fun, with some travelling from other nearby towns to enjoy food and drinks.
With most beers and alcoholic beverages being imported from South Africa, it would almost be difficult to imagine how Ko-Samuriwo Pub & Grill are selling such imports for just a dollar. Yes, it’s called dollar deals!

This decision has seen many revellers thronging Ko-Samuriwo, also known as eCommand Centre, or koSambhida.
Indeed, the dollar deals are not just a gimmick but a crowd puller!
Owners of the pub and grill are hoping to entice youths to stop doing drugs and be able to afford some decent beers at low prices.
According to the manager, Mehluli Mlotshwa, the dollar deals are meant to aid their anti-drug campaign.
“We are pushing for a drug free society and this is why we sell our alcoholic beverages for just a dollar so that the youths can afford to buy drinks and also have a great time surrounded by luxury,” Mlotshwa said.
Recently, Ko-Samuriwo played host to international tourism buyers, Zimbabwe Tourism Authority staff and local media.
The guests were treated to the newly established VIP section where they sampled braai, sadza and ice-cold beers of their choice.
Straight after their meals, the guests then joined in the party dancing the night away while in the comfy VIP section on the top deck which overlooks the whole yard.
The place was packed to the rafters and it was hard to believe the venue had only operated less than a month judging by the crowds.
Ko-Samuriwo has become the talk of the city and a hotspot for cheap thrills.
Depending on your pocket, revellers get to choose between the VIP section and the general section.
There are two VIP sections, the upstairs and downstairs, both furnished with luxury white couches, and the decor is accented with flowers, giving a warm ambience.
The upstairs area has its own well stocked bar and ample space for a dance floor as well as a dedicated DJ booth.
However, the one good thing is that everyone gets to listen to the same music.
“We want to maintain the section’s status, so we’ll only sell bottles such as Johnnie Walker, Glenfiddich, and Hennessy, among other premium brands who can afford these branded bottles,” Mlotshwa said.
