Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory of Zimbabwe has urged mobile operators to provide data transfer and data roll over services to their customers.

Responding to a question during a Road Show held in Zaka, Jerera and Ndanga Shopping Centre in Masvingo Province over the weekend, POTRAZ official said there was need for all mobile and internet providers to offer data transfer and data roll over.

A user had asked what needs to be done since data was expiring without customers having used it due to electricity load shedding.

“We, we need internet service providers to consider data transfer and data roll over so that in cases where people experience long hours of load shedding, they are still able to use it as and when there is electricity.

“Data transfer is like a family buys a loaf of bread and then share it among family members of four or five people.

“Then with data roll over this is when a user gets to continue using the data as and when they require say tomorrow or the next day they can simply continue from where they left,” POTRAZ said.

Another question asked was why there are network problems in some areas to the extent that data expires prejudicing the customers.

“As POTRAZ we encourage service providers to share the infrastructure so that there are no network challenges in some parts of the country.

“We know not all service providers are able to install boosters in every corner so when they share the existing infrastructure it makes it easier for network to be available at all the times at least cost,” POTRAZ official said.

The road show which ran under the theme: “Fair Digital Financial Services” was held in partnership with POTRAZ, Consumer Council of Zimbabwe, for cunsumer rights issues and Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe, the financial side.
