Announcing the new appointment, Smart Africa Chief Executive Officer and Director General, Lacina Kone, said the objective of the Council of Regulators was to collaborate towards agile Information Communication Technology regulation in Africa.
Kone said the Council of Regulators was an opportunity for them to share with other Director Generals and stakeholders the progress they have made since their last Council of African Regulators meeting and determine their next concrete steps in line with the Smart Africa new triennial strategy 2023-2025.
The aim is to prioritise cross-border projects and make a greater impact on the digital transformation of the African continent.
Dr. Machengete emphasised the critical role played by artificial intelligence in the digital world where computer programs are adding convenience and providing solutions for a better future
“To prepare for this “Now – Future” calls for agile regulation which can only be achieved through Collaborative Regulation and Regulation Through International Cooperation, among other regulatory methods,” Dr. Machengete said.
The summit will spotlight updates on the One Africa Network, Cybersecurity, and 5G Regulation in Africa in pursuit of meaningfully participating in the fourth industrial revolution as a continent.
