Harare — The Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ) yesterday reinforced its commitment to environmental sustainability by embarking on a tree-planting exercise under the theme “One Tree Today, A Forest Tomorrow.”
The initiative, led by POTRAZ staff across departments, is part of the Authority’s broader sustainability agenda aimed at promoting ecological preservation and raising awareness on climate action.
POTRAZ Deputy Director for Marketing and International Relations, Sibo Muteyiwa, said the exercise reflects the organisation’s recognition of the critical role trees play in combating climate change and improving environmental health.
“As an organisation, we recognise the importance of tree planting in contributing to a greener environment and mitigating the effects of climate change,” Muteyiwa said.
“It is a simple yet impactful way for institutions to demonstrate their commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship.”
She added that tree planting goes beyond beautifying spaces, noting its long-term benefits for cleaner air, soil conservation, biodiversity preservation, and reduced carbon footprints.
Muteyiwa also highlighted the positive impact on employee well-being, describing the activity as both environmentally beneficial and team-building.
POTRAZ’s participation in the initiative signals the Authority’s intention to lead by example in promoting eco-friendly practices and championing national reforestation efforts.
“We are proud to be leading by example,” Muteyiwa said, underscoring the organisation’s dedication to fostering a sustainable future.
The tree-planting activity forms part of ongoing environmental initiatives within the ICT sector, aligning with national and global goals for climate resilience and sustainable development.
