Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory of Zimbabwe has been appointed as the National Data Protection Authority by Government through the National Data Protection Act.
This means that a new form of COMPLIANCE has been introduced to market by the Government of Zimbabwe.
The National Data Protection Act has Under this Act all companies in Zimbabwe are mandated to register, comply and be LICENSED with the Data Protection Authority (POTRAZ) as well as comply with its rules and regulations as stipulated by the Act.
POTRAZ which is headed by Dr Gift Machengete will now apart from regulation, licensing will have added a new mandate of data protection which falls under a Data Protection Unit.
Failure to comply will result in heavy fines and possible prosecution, as indicated in the Act.
