Zimbabwe’s flagship Pfumvudza/Intwasa Presidential Input Scheme is gaining impressive momentum, with the government targeting three million farmers this season—each expected to cultivate three plots, translating into an ambitious nine million plots nationwide.
So far, the scheme has surpassed expectations, already crossing the six million plot milestone. Farmers across the country are embracing the initiative enthusiastically, with some taking on 3, 5, and even 25 plots, signaling strong support and belief in the program’s potential to transform the agricultural sector.
According to Chief Director Medelline Magwenzi, the rollout is progressing smoothly, with the wheat harvest already underway, particularly in commercial farming areas.
“The rollout is progressing well, especially in the commercial sector, where a bountiful wheat harvest is being reaped from 10,000 hectares,” said Magwenzi.
She confirmed that the scheme has made significant inroads across six provinces so far—Mashonaland West, Manicaland, Mashonaland Central, Midlands, and Mashonaland East—with farmers already receiving critical inputs, including maize seed, Compound D, top-dressing fertilizer, as well as herbicides and pesticides.
“With the season fast approaching, both the Ministry and the farmers are geared up and ready to go, poised to make this agricultural season a resounding success,” Magwenzi added.
The upbeat momentum is seen as a major boost for national food security, with the scheme expected to stimulate rural economies, create employment opportunities, and enhance livelihoods across farming communities.
With active collaboration between government and stakeholders, optimism remains high that the Pfumvudza/Intwasa scheme will not only meet but exceed its targets—cementing its place as a cornerstone of Zimbabwe’s agricultural transformation.
