Zimbabwe’s music fraternity is coming together to support R&B crooner Trevor Dongo, aka Trevor D, after a fire ravaged his apartment in the Avenues area over the weekend.
The blaze destroyed his home studio, cash, accessories, and other valuables, leaving the singer emotionally shattered.
But in the true spirit of unity, fellow artists Willis Wataffi Afirika and Stunner have stepped in to offer their support—both emotionally and financially—to help their brother get back on his feet.
A Heartbreaking Loss, A Cry for Help
In the aftermath of the tragedy, Trevor D took to Facebook, expressing frustration at those spreading false rumors about the fire.
His post even called out longtime collaborator and producer MacDonald “MacDee” Chidavaenzi, with whom he has worked since the early 2000s.
“Macdonald MacDee Chidavaenzi, I’ve been nothing but a good friend and brother to you since 2006. I don’t know where I wronged you,” he wrote.
As emotions ran high, Trevor also hinted at deep distress and even suicidal thoughts, which quickly raised alarm bells among fans and fellow musicians.
Music Industry Steps Up
Hip-hop veteran Stunner, known for his no-nonsense attitude, immediately reached out and pledged to rebuild Trevor’s music studio under his label, Tazoita Cash Records.
“I helped you start your career, and this won’t be the end of it, bro. As your big brother and Tazoita Cash Records, I pledge to get your studio up and running again by Wednesday. #WeAreOne,” Stunner posted, alongside a picture of him and Trevor D.
Meanwhile, Afro-jazz musician Willis Wataffi Afirika also reached out, urging Trevor D to stay strong. Failing to get through on his phone, Willis posted a heartfelt message on Facebook:
“Trevor Dongo, I hope I’m not too late after reading this. I’m not okay. Money can be made again, but life is precious. Tried all your numbers, but I know why they’re off. Let’s talk, my brother, we care.”
Fans and Industry Unite
Trevor D’s plight has ignited a wave of support from fans and industry players, with many offering financial assistance and words of encouragement. Stunner also called on well-wishers to contribute, sharing his management’s contact details for those willing to help.
The fire may have destroyed Trevor D’s belongings, but it has also revealed the deep brotherhood within Zimbabwe’s music industry.
With such unwavering support, it’s only a matter of time before Trevor D is back in the studio, making the music his fans love.
