Zimbabwe’s chimurenga music maestro Dr Thomas Mapfumo who is turning 79 years this year has his retirement shows cut out for him.
The Mamvemve hitmaker will coming home after close to two decades living in the United States.
Dubbed Retirement Tour, Mapfumo who is lovingly called Mukanya by his fans will hold at least four shows in Zimbabwe under the banner Peace, Love and Unity.
According to his manager Sam Mataure this would be his theme during his Retirement Tour where he spread the word of love, peace and oneness.
“Mdhara will be spreading the message of love, peace and unity during his four city tour where ethe main show will be in Harare. At that particular show, he will share the stage with four other young artists to whom he will pass on the symbolical baton to say ‘guys continue making music for the people’.
“The artists will be representing all the other artists in Zimbabwe this is just a symbolic gesture to say I am finally retiring,” Mataure said.
The other shows will be held in the United Kingdom, the United States and Australia where Mukanya will bid farewell to his fans.
There will be dinner or rather testimonial dinners during the tour to give time to fans to say goodbye in an intimate manner.
“The dates for the UK, US, Botswana and Australia tour are yet to be announced but the Zimbabwe tour is scheduled for April.
“I think what is important and evident about this tour is that Mukanya is doing what most artists failed to do. To say thank you to fans and goodbye while he is still alive,” Mataure said.
He said the Zimbabwe tour will be promoted and supported by Chipaz Promotions.
