Marc Marquez will look to carry the momentum of his emotional victory this past weekend in his home country of Spain when the 13th round of the 2024 MotoGP World Championship, the Grand Prix of San Marino and Rimini Riviera, is held at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli in Italy, on the afternoon of Sunday 8 September.

Marquez claimed a Sprint and full-length Race double at the Grand Prix of Aragon – with the latter win representing his first GP victory in over 1000 days. The Gresini Ducati rider was supremely dominant and thankful to end a long, long victory drought.
“It was an amazing race, it was incredible to win in front of this amazing crowd,” said Marquez.
“Today was a super difficult race especially because when you have the pace, the gap was difficult to full-focus on the riding on the last 10 laps. I was able to manage the gap well, I had something more just in case but I’m happy.”
The six-time MotoGP World Champion added, “The value of this victory is completely different.”
Meanwhile, Prima Pramac Ducati’s Jorge Martin finished second behind Marquez and has claimed the lead of the Riders’ World Championship – primarily because former pace-setter Francesco Bagnaia suffered a scary crash in contact with Alex Marquez.
“In my opinion, it’s impossible that he didn’t see me. I was already in front of him before changing direction,” said an angry Bagnaia.
No further action was taken by the FIM Stewards, who ruled that ‘neither rider was . . .predominantly responsible for the incident’.
A sore Bagnaia, who has dropped 23 points behind Martin, now has just five days to recover before Friday practice at his home Misano round: “Not very good, honestly, I feel a lot of pain in my neck,” he said of his condition. “But it could be much worse so it’s okay.”
Martin won last year’s event in Misano, preventing Bagnaia from claiming a hat-trick of triumphs after his victories in 2021 and 20222.
