Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Hon. Marian Chombo, has welcomed a call by renowned traditional leader Sekuru Banda for Zimbabweans to rally behind President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s Vision 2030, emphasizing the critical role traditional leaders play in promoting national unity and development.
Sekuru Banda made the remarks while addressing hundreds of residents during a large-scale gift-giving outreach programme in Karoi, Mashonaland West.
The event combined philanthropy with a strong political message, as the traditional leader urged citizens to support President Mnangagwa and unite behind the Second Republic’s development agenda.
He said Zimbabwe has recorded tangible economic and infrastructure progress under President Mnangagwa’s leadership, pointing to major projects such as the modernisation of the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport and the construction of key roads and bridges nationwide.
“These developments are not just symbols; they are changing the daily lives of our people by easing congestion, improving mobility, and stimulating economic activity,” Sekuru Banda said.
Taking a spiritual perspective, the Muslim cleric described leadership as divinely ordained, stating that President Mnangagwa was “God-chosen” to lead Zimbabwe at a crucial stage in its development. He urged citizens to rise above political differences and work collectively toward rebuilding the nation and restoring its historic status as the “Breadbasket of Africa.”
Sekuru Banda also commended the government’s Zimbabwe Is Open for Business policy, noting sustained growth in key sectors such as mining, agriculture, and tourism despite challenges posed by illegal economic sanctions.
Highlighting youth empowerment as a pillar of Vision 2030, he described young people as “the architects of the future,” stressing that continued investment in their skills and opportunities remains essential for long-term national development.
As the outreach programme concluded, Sekuru Banda reaffirmed his loyalty to the state and its leadership. “We can see the strides being made. As traditional leaders, we stand firmly behind the President’s vision for a prosperous Zimbabwe,” he said.
The remarks have generated widespread discussion across Mashonaland West, with many residents applauding Sekuru Banda for combining community support initiatives with a clear call for political stability, unity, and national progress.
