Zimbabwe’s granddads of music — Nicholas Zakaria and Mechanic Manyeruke — have sparked speculation among social media users that a new collaboration is in the offing after posting a photo during what appears to be a rehearsal.
The picture of the duo is doing the rounds on Facebook shows gospel star Mechanic Manyeruke leaning on the rock strumming his box guitar while Zakaria aka Madzibaba was seated on the rock singing.
The post has so far garnered 6.5K likes and 372 comments and 33 shares.
Speculation is rife that the two could be working together on as yet to be named new project and that is not without a reason.
Manyeruke is a gospel legend and a pioneering artist whose contribution to the growth of the genre cannot be overemphasized while Madzibaba is hailed as the Senior Lecturer of Zimbabwe’s pop music called Sungura. Much of Madzibaba’s repertoire revolves around gospel music although he plays sungura music. A devout Christian and a member of apostolic sect, Madzibaba has over the years matured with age like wine.
But the two have a lot more in common.
Both artists reside in Chitungwiza and they love gospel music. Fans reacted to the picture with great enthusiasm.
One fan, Langton Kataza Jambaya said: “King of gospel music from sungura.”
Another fan Tanyaradzwa Nyakatwa reacted: “Can we have a collaboration of these legends.”
Heart Danny Moyo responded: “Senior Lecturer God father of Sungura and Gospel Ambassador Mechanic Manyeruke.”
And Praise Zvegona commented: “Munhu 1 akazvibata musungura vamakatanga navo kuimba vakayenda kare rambai makazvichengeta madzibaba.”
And David Muzawazi simply said: “Spectacular! Just A Collabo We Will Be Nah.”
Mabula Oteng said: “Very impressive! Every song featured on makes a big hit The legend himself.”
Kwangwelo Munzhedzi said: “Mwari phindirai track, i am looking for it. Please advice on how i can download it. Am in S.A when i try to download it says track unavailable in this region.”
