Zimbabwe’s prominent mbira ensemble — Mbira DzeNharira — will perform their first gig of the year at the popular ZimCafe International tonight alongside DJ Jazzy F for the spiritual musical journey.
Renowned for their pulsating traditional beats, Mbira DzeNharira takes to stage at home of signature Portuguese Chicken, ZimCafe for this and every other Thursday in 2022.
And no doubt, the shows are like any other biras (appeasement ceremonies) where beer, music and dance is part of the fun.
Fronted by the sensational Tendayi Samaita Gahamadze, Mbira DzeNharira delivers its best in music and dance.
Isaac Neshamba who is known in social circles as The F&B Guru confirmed that Mbira DzeNharira will be performing at the eatery every Thursday.
The F&B Guru who is know for pioneering original and home grown entertainment, said this festive season was one not to be missed.
“We have lined up Mbira DzeNharira for Thursday and you know the group is well known for its authentic mbira sound.
“As you are aware original is hard to beat so expect fireworks when the group takes to the stage.
“We have re-introduced the famous on demand Portuguese chicken on our menu. There is also pit on spit every weekend,” The F&B Guru said.
Another group fans and patron can look forward to is Bana Des As, a rhumba outfit which performs at the hangout every Friday and Saturday as diner enjoy pig on spit.
The group is popular for its captivating dances and romantic rhythms.
Mbira dzeNharira revolutionized the sound of mbira electrifying and rearranging the instruments into bass baritone, rhythm and lead mbira.
Complex rhythms were born and mbira music took a more vibrant and multi rhythmic style which completely changed the sound.[3]
The current members of the group who have been together for eleven years are Tendayi Gahamadze who composes, sings and plays the baritone mbira ( Dongonda), Clemence Rice who plays the bass mbira (Nhovapasi), Takawira Devera who plays lead mbira (Nheketo) and Tendai Kazuru who plays shakers ( hosho).
All the players of instruments except the bass man are also singers.
